Third Grade Curriculum
Forces and Interactions
Third graders will explore how forces affect a variety of objects. They will use their observations to describe movement patterns and predict future motion. They will also explore magnetism through experiments. Their final project will allow them to design, engineer, and share their knowledge of forces with the Everett community.
Living Things in the Face of Change
Third grades will explore organisms and their ability to adapt and survive over time. Students will study the impact that these changes have had on our environment, as well as the impact of the environment on living things.
Weather and Climate
In this Earth science unit, students will be analyzing weather data to determine weather patterns. They will explore the difference between weather and climate. They will also investigate natural hazards that occur related to extreme weather events. They will be challenged to design solutions to reduce the impact of these weather related hazards.

Third grade scientists are busy continuing to explore weather and climate. They have explored temperature, thermometers, and wind. This week, they created a model to show the water cycle. Students learned about evaporation, precipitation, and condensation through this hands-on experiment. Next week, we will continue our investigation by analyzing weather data from a variety of areas around the world. Then, they will be ready to hop aboard "Everett Airlines" to take their very own "vacation". During this lesson, they will analyze weather data to plan a vacation to a destination personalized to their own interests!

The Everett Olympics is returning! This week third graders kicked off their physical science unit about forces and motion. They explored five Olympic themed stations designed to make them curious about forces! They asked amazing questions about the scientific phenomena at the stations, and earned their Olympic bid via an official letter and video from our Olympic coordinator. Next week, they will be working on designing fair test experiments about forces.
